SHWAY 14
Vrijdagmarkt 14, 2000 Antwerpen
Situated at one of the oldest squares of Antwerp between district Sint-Andries and district Historic Center, this authentic Antwerp townhouse was completely stripped down to it's ankles to be magically transformed into a high-end solid and modern building consisting out of three spacious one-bedroom apartments. With the best breakfast joint of Antwerp located at the ground floor, these residences are perfect for city trippers, families with children, business travellers and expats and longer stays.
THE BOOK BINDER
After manually folding and arranging each printed sheet, he pierced them with tiny holes and sew them patiently together with a needle and strong linen thread. Looping around the cords, he slowly creates the structure of the spine, rounding and backing it for the perfect shape. After cutting the wooden cover in the right size, he covers it in leather and presses his own pattern with gold leaf. With a colorful headband he finishes his masterpiece and takes it to his one-bedroom apartment at the first floor of the building.
THE PROOF READER
When the manuscript was handed over to him, he immediately took it to his one-bedroom apartment and nestled himself in the corner of the big couch near the window. With a good view from the second floor over the old square where the market takes place every Friday, this is his favorite spot to start correcting a new proof. Word-for-word, line-by-line, he searches for misspellings, misprinted letters, incorrect punctuation and makes tiny notes and corrections with his quill.
THE PRINTING PRESS
In a sunlit corner on the third floor, the air is filled with the familiar smell of ink and the rhythmic clatter of the printing press. Here, amidst shelves lined with stacks of fresh paper, the printer crafts each page with precision. As the press wheels turn, the pages capture stories waiting to be told.
